New Food Waste Regulations to Roll Out For Households in 2026
From 31 March 2026, England’s Simpler Recycling regulations will require mandatory weekly food waste collections for every household, including flats and shared dwellings. This mirrors the successful scheme already in place for businesses since March 2025, where separate food waste collections have significantly improved recycling rates and reduced contamination.
Business Scheme Hits the Mark
Since businesses were first required to separate food waste in March 2025, uptake has been strong. Companies across retail, hospitality, education and more embraced separate food-waste bins, many using compact caddies to streamline compliance. Early adopters report cleaner recycling streams, lower contamination, and smoother operations under the scheme. The success in commercial sectors gives confidence that extending the requirements to households will work just as well.
Food Waste Caddies Now Available for Homes
To help households prepare ahead of the March launch, popular food waste caddies, previously used in businesses are now sold for household use by System Hygiene: Switching to these robust, easy-to-clean caddies helps households fall in line with the upcoming regulations while making kitchen waste management tidy and efficient.
Why Get Ahead Now?
With collections beginning in March next year, stocking up beforehand is a smart move: * Ensures households are ready ahead of the legislative deadline * Reduces last-minute rush and price increases * Helps councils start phased pilot schemes in advance
Convenience, Compliance & Sustainability
By purchasing these caddies now:
1. Stay compliant: be ready for the new household food waste collection service starting March 2026. 2. Champion recycling: separate food waste properly to support composting and anaerobic digestion.
3. Reduce contamination: keep food out of general waste and streamline your recycling efforts.
Home use of these caddies also raises awareness and environmental responsibility, mirroring the positive impact seen in businesses.
